Remote Data Synchronisation
CLW's Sync service is specifically designed for design firms that produce large amounts of data. The service provides a nightly mirror of all critical data to both local and remote data stores. This enables rapid retrieval of data, and effective disaster recovery.
Key aspects of the service include:
- A local storage unit on which local data snapshots can be taken to retain, for example, daily, weekly and monthly copies of data.
- A remote storage unit held in our racks in the Level 3 facility in Goswell Road, London.
- Audited sychronisation between units at times to suit each client.
- Visits to your site to take "makeup disk" snapshots should the synchonisation process fall out of step by more than 3 days.
- Optional snapshots to LTO-4 tape using Bacula open standards backup when required.
We use large, expandable storage arrays as data stores for an initial snapshot of all critical fileshares, to provide an exact copy of a client's data. The mirror is then relocated offsite in a data centre. Synchronisation processes are run every evening to bring the mirror up to date. A local array ensures highly efficent data retrievals for any lost or amended data stored the previous day, and allows rapid access to an entire fileshare in the event of a server failure (which reduces work downtime). A remote array guards against the possibility of more serious hardware failure or disaster that may disable the server rack or office. An offsite array makes it possible to provide fileshares in another location with minimum delay. CLW undertake to provide this facility within 24 hours if the location is in the UK.
Each aspect of this service is audited on a daily basis. Any irregularities are immediately investigated by our system administrators. We can also provide manual synchronisation of data to disk on the rare occasions when the remote stores fall out of step.
